Review: 4 ½ Stars (Out of 5 Stars)

If you’re looking for the perfect anthem for your New Year’s Eve bash, the title track, “So This is Progress,” from the debut album by The Status is the song you’ve been waiting for. It’s the type of sing-along, party song that begs you to play air guitar and drag out the karaoke machine, proving that in this election year, The Status belongs on ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

Originally from Atlanta Georgia, The Status includes band members, Ben Grant (vocals/guitare), Andy Thompson (guitare/vocals), Danny Grant (bass), and Mike Felker (drums).

The band’s first big break happened when Atlanta radio station 99X added their popular single “Perfect Day” to their rotation. Since then, they have been touring the country with fellow bands Bayside and Straylight Run, drumming up fans from all walks of life.

The dynamic new disc entitled, “So This is Progress,” available through Doghouse Records, hits stores on October 7, 2008. The album is nostalgic, with a mix of reflective lyrics and high-velocity vocals that is bound to become a recreational favorite in iPods everywhere.

With catchy lyrics like “this is not goodbye, cause it’s not over, how I wish we could start this over” (“This is Not Goodbye”), and “why are you so sad, these are the best few years you’ll ever have,” (“Why Are You So Sad”) the record is about everything from relationships and fear to holding on to hope for the future.
