(Syracuse, NY) Little Big Town performed a free concert on Sept. 2, 2010 on the Chevy Court stage at the New York State Fair. Since 1998, Little Big Town has brought their own unique style and four-part vocal harmony to country music. With popular hits like “Bring It On Home” and “Little White Church,” the group doesn’t have an established lead singer. Prior to the concert, band member Phillip Sweet talked to me for a newspaper article about the group’s upcoming performance at the New York State Fair.

Michael Aaron Gallagher: “Have you spent any time in Central New York before?”

Phillip Sweet: “We have passed through Central New York several times over the years, but mostly what we’ve seen was from the windows of our tour bus. I can honestly say there is some gorgeous countryside, and people seem to take great pride in taking care of this beautiful state.”

Michael Aaron Gallagher: “What can fans expect from your show at the Fair, and are there any surprises?”

Phillip Sweet: “They can expect a lot of energy and passion from us, and variety, each one of the four of us steps out to take the lead. We love performing together, and are excited to play some new music from our upcoming album, ‘The Reason Why,’ released Aug. 24.”

Michael Aaron Gallagher: “What’s your favorite song to perform this year?”

Phillip Sweet: “My favorite song to perform right now is a song called ‘Kiss Goodbye’ from our brand new album. It’s different than anything else we’ve cut before.”

Michael Aaron Gallagher: “Why have you decided as a group to share the role of lead vocalist? What do you think it adds to your music and your live performances?”

Phillip Sweet: “It was always the vision of the band to share lead vocals, and felt that it only limited us if we locked into just one. It gives us the ability to change it up musically, and each person brings a unique quality to the face of the band that keeps it interesting.”

Michael Aaron Gallagher: “When fans listen to your new album ‘The Reason Why,’ what do you want them to take away from it?”

Phillip Sweet: “When fans listen to our new album, I want them to feel the heart and passion we poured into making these songs come to life. We want the listener to take a journey with us, and make an emotional connection knowing someone else shares the ups and downs of life with them. The music has always been what drives us, and the reason why we keep striving to live this life to the fullest.”
