Rising country music star Jake Owen will perform a free concert at 8 p.m., Sept. 5, 2011 at the New York State Fair, the final show for the Chevy Court concert series.

Known for songs like “Barefoot Blue Jean Night,” Don’t Think I Can’t Love You” and “Something About a Woman,” Owen said he is enjoying the radio success of the title track off his new album “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” (which has already sold more than 700,000 downloads).

In a recent newspaper interview, Owen talked about his new album and his upcoming visit to Central New York.

Michael Aaron Gallagher: “Have you been to the Syracuse area before?”

Jake Owen: “Yeah, many times. I’ve played the New York State Fair before. I played there with Kenny Chesney a couple of years ago.”

Michael Aaron Gallagher: “What are some of your favorite memories of going to the fair when you were growing up and do you have any fair favorites?”

Jake Owen: “Yeah, man. I’m a big fan of a really nice corn dog and a funnel cake and nice fresh-squeezed lemonade. And more importantly, fairs are filled with families – grandmas, grandpas, grandkids, mothers, fathers – real life. I think that’s the beauty of playing fairs and festivals. You get that taste of real life and real folks out there.”

Michael Aaron Gallagher: “What’s your favorite song to perform on stage right now?”

Jake Owen: “My favorite song is ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night’ which is my new single. It’s sold more than 700,000 copies already before the record’s even out so that song’s been going over really, really well lately for us. Hopefully it will there as well in Syracuse.”

Michael Aaron Gallagher: “Tell me a little bit about the Jake Owen Foundation and what people can do to support the cause.”

Jake Owen: “It’s my charity event I do every year with my best friend, Mardy Fish, who’s the top ranked player in the world for tennis. We grew up together and we do a lot for the children of our hometown. A huge part we incorporated last year was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And you can go to St. Jude’s website (stjude.org) and you can donate there and become a partner in hope, which is a monthly dedication to help these kids out that are battling childhood diseases, everything from cancer to leukemia. I’ve got neices and nephews and I just love kids. And I feel like I’m at the point in my life where I’m able to give back and we’re doing all we can to help with that.”

Michael Aaron Gallagher: “Is there anything you want to say to the fans about your upcoming show at the New York State Fair?”

Jake Owen: “We have a lot of fun. (I’m) looking forward to seeing everyone. I think anyone who’s ever been to our show before, they know that we have a good time and it’s our job to be out there and entertain. For those that haven’t seen us before, we always look at it hoping that they’ll see us and want to come back and bring a friend next time.”
