(Syracuse, NY) – As the winner of Nashville Star in 2006, Chris Young has made a name for himself in country music with such hits as “You’re Gonna Love Me,” “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song),” and “The Man I Want to Be.” I recently had an opportunity to ask Young about his concert with Kellie Pickler and Rascal Flatts at the New York State Fair Grandstand.
Michael Aaron Gallagher: “Have you spent any time in Central New York before?”
Chris Young: “Yes, but not recently.”
Michael Aaron Gallagher: “What’s your favorite song to perform this year?”
Chris Young: “I think that would have to be ‘Gettin’ You Home’ – it was my first number one so it will always be a special song for me and the crowd is so cool to watch when they sing it back to me.”

Michael Aaron Gallagher: “A lot of singer-songwriters struggle to make a name for themselves in Nashville. What are some of the things you’ve done to get noticed and what was the biggest thing that helped you gain an audience for your music?”
Chris Young: “I am kind of in a different category because I’m actually originally from the Nashville area (Murfreesboro is about 30 minutes outside Nashville) so I played all over the place during high school and college before becoming a full time musician and fronting the house band in Texas at Cowboy’s. I think having two number ones this year has increased the number of people who know of my music, and the fans made that happen, so I guess the biggest thing that helps me gain audience is actually my fans and their response to my music.”
Michael Aaron Gallagher: “For listeners who may not be familiar with your music, what are some of the things you sing about?”
Chris Young: “My current single, ‘Voices’ is actually about my family, and my real family appears in the video. I consider myself a “traditional” country artist, and I try to sing about things that relate to all of us in one way or another.”
Michael Aaron Gallagher: “What can the audience expect from your performance at the New York State Fair?”
Chris Young: “I have fun when I’m on stage, and I want the audience to have fun too. We’ll be doing some familiar stuff and some new songs, so hopefully we’ll all have a good time. I LOVE Fairs so it’s always a fun show for me. We will do a meet and greet if time permits, not sure of my travel arrangements at present but do them whenever we can work it out.
