Bianca D’Ambrosio and Chiara D’Ambrosio
As the month of October draws to a close, it marks the end of “Bullying Prevention Awareness Month.” But for many young people, bullying is a year-round issue that can affect their health, happiness and interpersonal relationships both in school and at home.
For 7-year-old, twin sisters Bianca and Chiara D’Ambrosio, speaking out against bullying is an important cause. The girls, who are best known for their role as Summer Newman on the CBS daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless, recently released a music video for their song “Let Your Light Shine” to draw positive attention to the issue and help encourage kids who may be struggling with a bully in their own lives.
“In the video, there are two people who are being bullied in school,” Chiara said, “And we try to help them stand up to the bullies and let their light shine.”
The girls spent four days filming their first music video, a process which they say they enjoyed.
“The most fun part of making the video was playing the guitar!” Bianca said.
In addition to selling t-shirts on their website to raise money for the Seth Walsh Foundation, they also wore purple on October 19, in support of Spirit Day (a day when people wear the color purple to speak out against bullying in all its forms).
As Chiara explained, the girls wanted to make a difference through their work, “Because we can send out a message that bullying is bad and no one should ever, ever bully.”
In addition to their singing career, the D’Ambrosio twins are also successful, up-and-coming actresses. Together, Bianca and Chiara have landed guest-starring roles on The Closer, Parks and Recreation and Criminal Minds. In 2013, they will appear in the new FX series Legit, starring Australian comedian Jim Jefferies.
“We were very excited about working on Legit,” Chiara said. “The director let us say action twice!”
Even at a young age, the D’Ambrosio twins are already making big strides in Hollywood and setting a good example for other kids their age. Through their work off-screen to fight bullying, they are showing that together we can make the world a better place.
