When you first hear the phrase “Twitter celebrity,” you immediately wonder how someone can become famous by only using 140 characters at a time. But Meaghan Dowling is a perfect example of how being yourself and sharing your authentic voice with the world can lead to big things.
With a Twitter following that would make much of corporate America and even a few Hollywood celebrities jealous (currently more than 400,000 on her @TeenThings account), she captures the essence of what it feels like to be a teenager in today’s tech-driven world.
Meaghan’s perceptiveness and remarkable ability to communicate is proving that when it comes to marketing, social media and entertainment, it is the message that resonates most with audiences young and old.
But she isn’t just sharing her opinions on Twitter.
In fact, Meaghan is also a co-host of the popular webseries IMO (which stands for “In My Opinion”) on the AwesomenessTV YouTube channel. Alongside regular co-hosts Audrey Whitby (of Disney Channel‘s So Random!), Teala Dunn (of TBS‘s Are We There Yet?) and Gracie Dzienny (of Nickelodeon‘s Supah Ninjas) she brings her online opinions to life and discusses a range of hot topics for tweens and teens.
“I probably talk non-stop,” Dowling joked in a recent interview with StayFamous.Net. “I’m actually a very vocal person.”
Luckily for Meaghan, the talk-show format of “IMO” gives her the opportunity to chat about everything from Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez breakup rumors to more serious topics like bullying.
“I went to a public high school and I dealt with a lot of that and I know so many of my friends dealt with a lot of that,” Dowling said. “So the fact that I’m on a platform where I’m able to speak about (bullying) and people will listen to me and hear what I have to say – it just means so much to me.”
In the end, it is Meaghan’s honesty and genuineness that resonates most and is one of the reasons that so many people are paying attention to what she says both on and off-camera.
So what celebrities would Meaghan like to make a guest appearance someday on IMO?
“I have a list,” Dowling said. “I really want to have Ariana Grande on the show. I love her. She’s a girl crush of mine. I really want to have One Direction and Justin Bieber, but I also want to have YouTube stars like JacksGap or the Janoskians. I think to incorporate some other YouTube people would be so much fun.”
