“Small Town Girl: 5 Q’s for Kellie Pickler”

In 2006, the fifth season of the FOX reality show “American Idol” featured aspiring singer Kellie Pickler, a recording artist and television personality whose album “Small Town Girl” would eventually be certified gold. With five songs in the top 20 on Billboard’s Hot Country chart, Pickler’s biggest hits include “Best Days of Your Life” and “Red High Heels.”
Kellie Pickler performed with Rascal Flatts and Chris Young on September 4, 2011 on the Mohegan Sun Grandstand stage at the New York State Fair.
In the August/September issue of Max magazine (published by the Scotsman Media Group), Pickler answered some of my questions about her work.
Michael Aaron Gallagher: “Have you spent any time in Central New York before?”
Kellie Pickler: “I played the State Fair in 2007 and I’m very excited to be coming back again. The crowds are so friendly and you can’t beat the candy apples. And the rides are so much fun. Sometimes me and the band sneak over to the midway and ride the rides.”
Michael Aaron Gallagher: “What can fans expect from your show at the New York State Fair? And are there any surprises in store?”

Kellie Pickler: “Well if you know me, there’s no telling what might happen. We’ve added songs to the set that we’ve never performed before and I’m thrilled to be back on the road with Rascal Flatts, they are like big brothers to me.”
Michael Aaron Gallagher: “What’s your favorite song to perform this year?”
Kellie Pickler: “Our new single is “Makin’ Me Fall in Love Again,” and it’s just such a happy, up-tempo love song and really describes where I am in my life right now.”
Michael Aaron Gallagher: “You’ve been involved in some charity work recently. How important is it to you to be able to give back and make a difference through your music?”
Kellie Pickler: “It’s very important. We’ve done three USO shows and I love taking a piece of home to our military overseas. That’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.”
Michael Aaron Gallagher: “What would you like people to know about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and what’s one thing they can do to help?”
Kellie Pickler: “They never turn anyone away for their inability to pay. They also help the families by providing lodging, transportation, whatever they need. What can you do to help? Give, give give!”
