“When I was in second grade… my nickname was Freckles,” Savannah Lathem revealed in a recent interview with StayFamous.Net.

The 15-year-old actress, who has modeled for J Brand Jeans, Vera Bradley and Ralph Lauren, may rock the red carpet now, but she admitted that she wasn’t always so confident with her appearance.

“I wanted to get rid of my freckles and there was this freckle cream that you could put on your face,” she said.

With a petition in hand, Savannah went around her class asking her fellow classmates if she should get rid of her freckles once and for all. But when the answer was unanimous, she decided to listen to her friends.

“I kept them because no one said I should get rid of them,” Savannah said. “I’m actually glad I kept my freckles though.”

In the end, she learned to accept her natural beauty and be proud of what made her unique.

Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Savannah credits her aunt for playing a big role in her decision to pursue an acting career.

“My aunt knew about this girl who was coming to Los Angeles to become an actress,” Savannah said. “She called my mom and she was like, ‘Savannah should become an actress,’ because I always loved performing in front of my family.”

Fortunately, her mother agreed.

“There was this talent agency that was coming to Alabama to interview kids,” she said. “We waited all day and there were 1,500 kids in the line. I was the last one to go that day, and I interviewed with them and they really liked me. They narrowed it down to three kids and then they chose me. So we went out to California and auditioned, and I was doing really well, so we made the move out here.”

After moving to the West Coast and studying with an acting coach, she aced her first big auditions, landing guest-starring roles on the popular television shows Criminal Minds and LOST. She also did voiceover work for Diary of a Wimpy Kid (replacing the voice of Chloë Grace Moretz) and Ramona and Beezus; and she even appeared in a television commercial with Selena Gomez.

In her most recent role, Savannah Lathem stars in the critically-acclaimed, independent film California Solo, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is playing in select theaters around the country.

“I play Robert Carlyle‘s daughter… Arianwen,” Savannah said. “My character, I guess you could say, she’s very hurt from the past with her father, because she’s only met her father one time and has a bad experience from that one time. Her father is facing deportation out of the country and he’s trying to come back to his past, so he can stay in the country. Once I see my father again, I become more attached to him, because I realize that we have so much in common. My character sneaks out of school to see him. We walk around all day and talk. I can’t say what happens… but they have a great relationship in the end.”

Robert Carlyle is an amazing actor. I got to work with Kathleen Wilhoite, as well. They’re both really great and they’re such great people,” Savannah said. “On the set, Robert Carlyle showed me pictures of him on the set of Once Upon a Time, before the show came out (what Rumpelstiltskin looked like), and that was really cool to see.”

When she isn’t acting, Savannah enjoys gymnastics, dancing, baking and spending time with her dogs. As a rising young star with a passion for fashion, she is a blogger for New York Dress, where she shares her personal red carpet looks with readers. Movie goers will also have a chance to see Savannah, starring opposite Daniel Baldwin in the suspense thriller The Guest House, which is scheduled for release in 2013.
