As she glides across the stage, elegant and graceful, every movement seamlessly blends into the next, her tempo transforming with the music, as if each song she interprets is an outward expression of her boundless energy. For anyone wondering, “What is bigger than a tripple-threat?” The answer is Jordyn Jones.

Her astonishing talent and on-screen charisma are undeniable. She is a successful model, dancer, singer, actress, and YouTube phenom – and did I mention she can rap, too? In fact, the music video for her cover of the Sharaya J song “Banji” has already garnered nearly 7 Million views on YouTube.

Best known for her role on the Lifetime reality series, Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition, Jordyn has appeared on several TV shows including, Dancing with the Stars, Disney Channel’s Shake It Up, X Factor, the Kid’s Choice Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards. And she’s just getting started.

In a recent interview with Jordyn, I asked her about her music, her dancing and how it all began.

Like many performers, Jordyn says she started at a young age – 2 years old to be exact. Her mother’s friend, who was a dance instructor, introduced her to the basics and from then on, Jordyn’s natural ability and determination helped her excel.

“I have definitely improved over the years, because I have been pushing myself more and more,” Jordyn said. “I have come a long way. Now I live in LA, so that’s a big change, going from a Michigan studio, to moving to LA and dancing on TV shows.”

Since her first lesson, Jordyn has studied many different styles of dance and incorporated a variety of complex dances into her repertoire.

“I have done everything,” Jordyn said. “Tap, ballet, jazz, jazz/funk, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary.” Yet, it’s clear she has a passion for hip-hop, something she demonstrates in the music video for “Take Over” by Carson Leuders and in her own covers of “Lip Glos” and “Banji.”

“It’s definitely the most fun to do,” Jordyn said. “Very funky and groovy. All of the popular songs, that are my favorites, are hip-hop. So it’s really fun to dance to those songs, because they’re very upbeat. All the classes in LA teach hip-hop or jazz/funk, so it’s definitely my favorite.”

Even with an extensive hip-hop background, Jordyn is a versatile performer and actress. She shows her sassy side in MattyBRaps‘ cover of Taylor Swift‘s “Shake It Off” and her sweeter side in the holiday music video of “Winter Wonderland” with the boy-band Forever in Your Mind. And just when you think you’ve seen it all, she gives a dazzling, whimsicle performance on stage in the music video for Cheskino‘s cover of Ed Sheeran‘s “Thinking Out Loud.”

With nearly a quarter of a million subscribers on YouTube, Jordyn has amassed a passionately loyal fan following on social media. But her YouTube channel originally started out as a private way to document her dance journey.

“Back then, when I started it, it was just for me to post my old dance videos – it was kinda like a diary,” Jordyn said. “And then one day, my mom wanted to make it public because we had a bunch of friends that wanted to watch them. So then it got more and more popular and we just started posting more and more videos.”

When she landed the opportunity to compete as a dancer on Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition in 2012, it helped her gain more exposure in the entertainment industry.

“The experience was amazing and I had so much fun doing that,” Jordyn said. “I got to learn a bunch of dances… and we had a show the next day to perform in front of an audience and the three judges: Abby Lee Miller [from Dance Moms], Robin Antin and Richard “Richy” Jackson. It was so much fun. I got to meet a lot of new people on that and work with a bunch of new choreographers.”

With several new projects on the horizon, this year Jordyn is looking forward to making more YouTube videos and acting. She also says she is excited to record new music for her fans.

“My music will definitely be out this year,” Jordyn said. “I’m working on an EP with Charlie Midnight. So we’re doing a bunch of songs… and I just can’t wait for everybody to hear them!”
