Ariana Richards (Exclusive Interview)
By Michael Aaron Gallagher of StayFamous.Net
Dec. 18, 2008 – In 1993, the Universal Pictures blockbuster movie Jurassic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Michael Crichton, became a worldwide phenomenon and a beloved cinema classic. More than a decade since the film’s release, Ariana Richards is still recognized for her role as Lex, the granddaughter of John Hammond (the park’s creator).
In addition to briefly reprising the role in the movie’s sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Ariana Richards has also starred in several other motion pictures including, Tremors (1990), Angus (1995), Spaced Invaders (1990), and Born Free: A New Adventure (1996).
Although her acting career has brought her fans from around the world, she continues to follow one of her lifelong passions. As an award-winning artist, Ariana Richards has been recognized by American Artist Magazine and Oil Painters of America.
Ariana often carried her drawings with her onto Hollywood movie sets as a child, sketching and painting in her spare time. The study of color theory, classical methods and figure drawing, gradually began to lead her away from the entertainment industry and into a successful career as an artist.
Now, many years later, she spends much of her time in the heart of Oregon’s wine country, at her studio in the Willamette Valley, where she creates commissioned portraits for her customers. (For pricing information click here.)
“The subject that most intrigues me is the human figure, and the portrait in particular. I am fascinated with getting a person’s essence out onto that canvas.” Richards said, “It’s really fulfilling when someone sees the portrait and….tears come into their eyes and they see themselves in almost a new light.”
Ariana’s paintings demonstrate her remarkable skill in adapting a classical genre. With extraordinary vision, she modernizes the traditional portrait to capture the true beauty of contemporary Americana. Her stunning ability to convey emotion through the use of color, vibrant imagery, rich textures, setting and detail make her subjects as intriguing as the locations they inhabit.
“Monet’s process was to allow what he sees to move through his eyes, through his heart and then come out onto the canvas,” Richards said, “and that totally exemplifies what I see the artistic process to be.”
