Amid the echoes of screaming fans, performers readied themselves to take the stage at an event that helps kick off the summer season in Central New York.
The 2nd annual 93Q Summer Jam on the Island, recently took place on Paper Mill Island, Baldwinsville, drawing an audience from across Central New York.
Emceed by morning radio show hosts Ted Long and Amy Robbins, along with appearances by local radio personalities Rick Roberts, Mike Cauchon and Brandon C, the free Central New York concert series featured national recording acts singing some of their popular singles, including Taio Cruz (“Break Your Heart“), We the Kings (“We’ll Be a Dream“), Charice with surprise special guest Iyaz (“Replay“), Aaron Fresh (“Spending All My Time“), Spose (“I’m Awesome“) and Mayday Parade.
Like last year’s event, which brought Jessie James, 3-oh! 3, Elliott Yamin, Safety Suit and The White Tie Affair to CNY, there was no charge for admission, but tickets had to be won through the station’s special contest.
Operations Manager Tom Mitchell, said his favorite part of Summer Jam is “the audience reactions to their favorite performers.” According to Mitchell, the artists enjoyed meeting the listeners and signing autographs after their sets.
The 93Q event marked the return of We the Kings to the Syracuse area. In May, the band also headlined a concert at the Lost Horizon with Cartel, The Maine, Stereo Skyline and Artist vs. Poet.
During their Summer Jam performance, bass player Drew Thomsen, wore a Dinosaur Bar-B-Que T-shirt.
In one of the highlights of the evening, We the Kings frontman Travis Clark, jumped off the stage and picked a flower from the flower pot, offering it to a member of the audience.
In addition to playing their hits “Check Yes Juliet,” “Secret Valentine,” and a cover of Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle,” Clark also performed an acoustic rendition of “We’ll Be A Dream,” a song the band recorded with Disney Channel star Demi Lovato.
“It was amazing to see the 5,000 fans in Syracuse singing every single lyric to our brand new single ‘We’ll Be A Dream‘ at the concert,” Travis Clark said, “93Q put on an amazing show and we were excited to be a part of it.”
